I have been a member of the governing body of Ysgol Frongoch since September 2013. I live locally in Flintshire and, until my retirement 12 years ago, worked in Local Government for both Clwyd and Denbighshire County Councils. For both of these authorities, I worked very closely with schools and Governing Bodies in the management of their Delegated Budgets and many other aspects of their finances. I was also instrumental in developing the current school funding formula of Denbighshire County Council.

Currently, I am also a Governor at Ysgol Gwenffrwd in Holywell as the Chair of the Finance Committee. In their last Estyn Inspection in 2018, they were awarded “Excellent” in all 5 inspection areas. Estyn said “Members of the governing body have rigorous knowledge of the school’s performance by playing a prominent part in its monitoring, self-evaluation and strategic planning processes. By working effectively with the senior management team, observing lessons and scrutinising books, they have a sound awareness of the standards of learning and teaching. This enables them to hold the school to account and set a clear strategic direction to develop the school as an effective learning community. A particular feature of their work is the successful procedures that they use to monitor and promote attendance. As a member of the Governing Body here at Ysgol Frongoch, I chair the Finance Committee.

I am also an Associate Governor at Ysgol Treffynnon High School in Holywell. In addition to this, I am currently a member of the Flintshire County Council School Budget Forum.

I enjoy travelling, especially to Europe and North America, to watch my favourite sports of figure skating and gymnastics. I am a volunteer with the Ysbyty Glan Clwyd League of Friends in the hospital and am also a trustee on the board of this worthy charity.

I feel that it is our responsibility to ensure that all pupils in Ysgol Frongoch, irrespective of ability or need, reach and exceed their and also our expectations. I want to see us remain as an excellent school and I will work hard to do whatever I can to help us all achieve this.
